Hard labor

This is another one of these projects that's been a while in the making...
The area between the pool path and the pool pump has been a thorn in our side for a while. It was hard to mow and the tree provided too much shade for the grass to really grow. A while back Greg got rid of the grass and laid some stepping stones to "tide us over".
This weekend we decided to tackle it once and for all.
Friday morning I went outside and cut back the lower tree branches, trimmed the oak leaf hydrangea and did some clean up.

After I got done with the clean up. Looks better already, don't you think?

Nachdem ich mit den "Vorarbeiten" fertig war. Schaut doch schon viel besser aus, oder?
After Greg got home Friday evening we laid the landscape fabric down and started placing the stepping stones. We decided to make two path to the pool pump, one leading from the pool and one from the house.

We also dumped the first 12 bags of rocks on Friday evening!!

On our first trip to Lowe's on Saturday morning (notice I said "first") I found this little beauty. We'd been thinking about putting a potted plant into the rocked area and I couldn't pass this one up.

Do you see why I couldn't pass it up? Marked down from $29.98 to $5.00!! Score!!

Seht ihr warum die Pflanze mit musste? Sie war von $29.98 auf $5.00 runtergesetzt!!
Ok, this is what it looks like today. After 6 trips to Lowe's, 70 bags of rocks,  new stepping stones and a new border, the area is finally finished!! Actually we probably still need 4 bags of rocks to finish the area behind the pool pump fence, but for today we're calling it done!

Oh and here's the $ 5.00 plant in it's new place. The planter was marked down to half price as well and I think it gives the area a little something extra. :-)

Now it's time to enjoy the pool and rest, carrying all those bags of rocks really wore us out...

  1. Looks great! I think those projects that we tend to put off---once they're done, we sit back and wonder why we put them off for so long. It must be a matter of "being in the mood". Enjoy!

  9. that is quite a lot of rocks to haul for the yard but so so so worth it! The work you two did is striking and now you won't have to worry about mud anymore.
