Birthday cake

Every year, at every birthday, I ask the girls what kind of birthday cake they want. Over the year's I've made all kinds of different ones, everything from barbie cakes, to Nutella cakes and lots of times cheesecakes were requested. For this birthday Hannah requested "a cake like last year" - which was a sheet cake cut into the # 16. 
I decided to go with the sheet cake recipe, but add a little twist to it. 
First off, I divided the batter into 5 ziploc bags.

Jedes Jahr an ihren Geburtstagen frage ich die Maedels was sie denn gerne fuer einen Geburtstagskuchen haetten. Ueber die Jahre hin habe ich die verschiedensten gebacken, alles von Barbie Kuchen, ueber Nutella Kuchen und auch ganz oft Kaesekuchen. Dieses Jahr wollte Hannah einen Kuchen wie letztes Jahr, was ein typischer "sheet cake" war den ich in die # 16 geschnitten und dekoriert hatte.
Dieses Jahr nahm ich also das Rezept fuer den sheet cake, habe ihn aber etwas "hergerichtet". 
Zuerst habe ich den Teig in 5 Plastktueten aufgeteilt.
 Then I added different food colors to each bag of batter. I thought kneading it in the bag might be easier than doing it in different bowls, but it may actually be easier the other way around.

Nun habe ich den Teig in den Tueten mit verschiedenen Lebensmittelfarben gefaerbt. Ich dachte es waere einfacher es in den Tueten zu "kneten" als in Schuesseln zu mischen, aber ich glaube anders herum waere es besser gewesen.
 Next up I cut off a little corner of the bags and squiggled the batter into three greased and floured cake pans. No rhyme or reason to the squiggles...

Als naechstes habe ich ein Eckchen von den Plastiktueten abgeschnitten und den Teig in drei gebutterte und bemehlte Backformen gespritzt.

 Oops, forgot to take a picture of them before putting them in the oven. Once all the batter was in the cake pans, I tapped them on the counter a few times to get rid of any bubbles.

Oops, hatte total vergessen ein Bild zu machen bevor ich alles in den Ofen geschoben habe. Bevor die Backformen in den Ofen kommen, sollte man darauf achten, dass keine Luftblasen im Teig sind.
 I let the cakes cool in the pan, then I took them out and leveled them. I LOVE the tie-dyed look of these cakes!

Ich habe die Kuchen in den Formen abkuehlen lassen, und danach gerade geschnitten um sie besser stapeln zu koennen. Ich bin von diesem Batik Look total begeistert!
 The cake was frosted with plain white frosting and then I just added some sprinkles and the candles. Hannah had no clue what was hidden under the plain outside of this cake.

Den Kuchen habe ich mit einfachem weissen frosting (eine Art Buttercreme) bestrichen und dann mit Zuckerperlen bestreut. Hannah hatte keine Ahnung wie der Kuchen von innen aussah.
