Party time!

Yesterday was Hannah's much anticipated 16th birthday party with her friends.
She had invited 18 friends to the party, but not all of them were able to make. Most of them came and I believe they all had fun.
We'd been a little concerned about the weather, but even though it was a bit cooler than we'd hoped for, it worked out fine.
This is what the invitations looked like.
Gestern konnte Hannah endlich mit ihren Freunden ihren 16. Geburtstag feiern.
I bought a neckroll pillow and covered it in plain white fabric. I also bought blue fabric to match Hannah's room and had "Sweet 16 Hannah" embroidered on it. This was turned into a "sleeve" for the pillow. At the party, Nadia was in charge to get all of Hannah's friends to sign the pillow with a fabric marker. It was given to her at the end of the party and will be a sweet reminder of the fun day she had.
The decorations were pretty simple - I really don't like spending too much money on things that will only be used one time. I made a "sweet 16 banner" that was hung on the porch and several little "16" banners that were placed all over the yard. Got the matching streamers and called it done.

This is just an old hula-hoop that I spruced up with streamers. It looked kinda pretty blowing in the breeze.
The food! If we go out to eat, Hannah orders chicken tenders most of the time. If she winds up going somewhere with friends, she LOVES subway sandwiches. So, since this was her party, I ordered chicken tenders from Zaxby's and a 6ft sub for her. She was in heaven!!
The cake! During spring break I baked two sheet cakes and cut them into shapes. The day before the party I decorated them. I am most definitely not a professional cake decorator, but I think they turned out good enough.
The fun! The "kids" (is it ok to call teenagers kids?) ate, played cornhole, played tag and hide and seek in the woods - and with flashlights in the front yard after dark... I think it was a good day for all. :-)

  2. Looks like a wonderful party. I'm going to have to Google cornhole, because I have no idea what that is. Sort of like horseshoes?

    1. I had to google it myself Sue. :-) The games belong to friends of mine and they let me borrow them for the party. We just wanted to have something on hand the teens could do. It was a lot of fun to play.
