Gourds

A few weeks ago when we were in OK, my fil gave me several gourds to take home. (Thank you Charles!)
I love trying to come up with different things to make with them!
My plan was to turn some of them into "bowls/planters". It is so quick and easy to do that. I cut the tops off, and sanded the outside, inside and edges.Cleaned off all the dust and used some wood stain we had on hand to stain the gourds. They dried over night and were done. The stains you see on the gourds are actually in the gourd and could not be sanded off. I think it adds character to the planter. :-)
Before putting a plant into the planter, I cover the plant pot with aluminum foil and line the planter with plastic bags. I have made several of these before and they have all held up well this way.

  1. I love to make gourd bowls. We grew gourd two years ago and I still have baskets full just waiting their turn. I think the stains and markings on them make them even more special.
Now I need to put a plant in one!
    Have a great Sunday.
