Kitchen redo...

I have wanted to repaint the kitchen for a long time now, and decided the beginning of a new year is the perfect time for it. The grey color made the kitchen look dull and the red was starting to look pretty bad - and it made the kitchen look too dark.
We also decided to add some beadboard as a back splash to brighten up the kitchen and make clean up easier.
Here are the before pictures:

It is a little hard to tell, but here is the beadboard behind the stove. I love how clean it looks. :-)
Gefaellt mir total gut. :-)

The other side of the kitchen looks like this now.

The little shelf would not fit under the cabinets anymore since the trim was added around the beadboard. It found a new home on the other side.
The dining area of the kitchen with the new, lighter colors. We're happy with the new look, and now all that's left to do is tile the kitchen... Another project for another time...

  2. Beautiful! I have been considering the bead board for our kitchen on the mountain. I think It would look very nice behind our counter... when we get to that point. '-)

  6. What a transformation! Want to come do mine next? That bead board really is beautiful the way you've used it as a back splash, Anke! I love the little cupboard in the dining area of the kitchen...it looks as if it may have come from Germany. And I love all of the pieces on the wall in that same area. Are they resin, pottery or wooden? WOW! I just can't get over what a difference your efforts have made in that room. I know you are looking forward to when the floor can be tiled...but in the meantime you get to enjoy a lighter kitchen!

    1. Thank you Dianna. :-) The cupboard did come from Germany, it used to belong to my grandpa's cousin. It was given to us while we were still in Germany and I stripped all the old paint off. Lots of elbow grease, but well worth it. The things hanging on the wall are all Martha Stewart copper cookie cutters. "Back when" she had a catalog and I fell in love with them. I used to actually use them here and there, lately they are just decoration. :-)
