The little chicks have been with us for one week now and are doing well. You can almost watch them grow - they are feathering out and just one week has made a huge difference in their appearance.
Since it's been a week, we decided to add a little perch to their box and they love it. It's just the cutest thing to watch the little gals perching on that branch.
Precious likes being held. :-)
Precious laesst sich gerne halten. :-)
Elvis likes to perch on our hands.Elvis sitzt gerne auf unseren Haenden.
Blondie and Priscilla have discovered the perch.

Precious again...
Wieder Precious...
Just look at those cuties!! :-)
Sind sie nicht niedlich!! :-)
This morning I added some clumps of grass to their box. They stared at it for a bit and then went to town on it.

DeleteWe got 18 chicks Friday and they are so fun to watch. That is a great idea about putting a stick in for roosting. Going to do that today.
ReplyDelete18 chicks, how fun! I wish we could have more, but since we live in a subdivision, we need to take it easy. If all works out, we might try and add two more next year... The idea for the roost came from a fb page about chickens. Lots of helpful hints and tips for newbies like us.
DeleteWell they look a lot bigger than last week! They must love their new home :) I hope you continue to give updates, I'm living the farm life through you ;)
ReplyDeleteThey have grown quite a bit and we had to cover the box with wire, as they are trying to "spread" their wings. :-)
DeleteThey grow so fast! Reminds me of how fast our ducks and pigeons grow :) I am so happy for you!!

Thank you Leslie, I am thrilled to have them. :-)
Deletethey are SOOO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI think so, too. ;-)
DeleteThey are the sweetest.....I might have to give up chicken!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea they liked to 'perch'. I learn something new everyday!
XO
Hannah said the same thing! She said from now on we can't eat chicken anymore... ;-) I knew grown chickens like to perch, but didn't know I should offer the little ones a perch as well. Found a great blog with lots of interesting tips though...
