This weekend...

...was a busy one.
Hannah got started on a project for her room. She discovered pinterest (I think we're in trouble ;-) ) and found something she wanted to make. I'll show more pictures when it's done - not supposed to talk about it yet...
We invited our neighbor over for a Labor day cookout. We cooked burgers and hot dogs and I baked an apple pie and made ice cream. Yummy!
When my friend and I went walking yesterday morning (about 7 miles), I found a bunch of flowers growing on the side of the road. Once we got done, I went back and got a few - don't they look pretty?
Thanks to Isaac we had some major rain in the forecast and I was worried all the tomatoes would split on the vines. Here are a bunch in all manner of "ripeness" that I picked on Saturday.
Isaac did deliver! We got almost 5 1/2 inches in two days, flash flood warnings, tornado watches and a tornado warning that sent us into our shelter Sunday afternoon. Things went well, nothing really happened. Unless you want to count the bruises, scratches and scrapes I got when I wrestled the two dogs down into the shelter...
Even though it was a busy weekend, I did find time to refinish this table. It used to be our TV stand when I was growing up, then we used it while stationed in Germany. Once here Hannah used it, it got painted black and then she didn't want it anymore. Grrr.. So this weekend I stripped the whole thing and then waxed it with  "antiquing" wax. Not too bad for a table that at least 35 years old...

    1. We seem to only have extremes this year. Extreme heat, extreme drought and then extreme rain... Can't wait to see what winter holds in store for us...

  2. 5 1/2 " of rain-wow-I think that would float the garden-LOL!

    The table turned out great!

  3. Looking forward to seeing Hannah's finished Pinterest project! Your pie looks delicious and loved seeing all of your tomatoes. Glad the shelter was there when things turned to a warning over the weekend! And your bedside table looks amazing, Anke! You did have a busy weekend!

    1. Thank you Dianna! Even though the weather didn't get that bad, it is such a relief to know we have the shelter. We felt so much safer down there than in the bathroom we used to hide out in.

  4. Sorry, but I laughed picturing you wrestle the dogs into the storm shelter! I'm glad all was well with Isaac.
The apple pie is gorgeous. Um, I wish I could go back in time to the day Lolo found Pinterest. It's been one project after another since that day! And they are sometimes messy!
    Good luck.

    1. It is kind of funny thinking about me wrestling the dogs down there - now anyways... You should have seen it, Harley (at least 65 pounds) was easy to catch but geez was it a workout to drag her down there. Savvy (a mere 27 pounds) was easy to get down there, but first I had to chase her through the whole house several times in order to catch her. Ingrates!
Hannah's project is definitely going to be messy, you'll see...

  5. Those Flowers are Zinnias! They grow wild there or some one planted them? Love the little table.. Gotta love Pinterest! Cant wait to see.. Yummy looking pie! We got a good amount of rain from Isaac thankfully! Hope it helps this drought we are in. Hay will still be short but at least our grazing can be prolonged. We have more rain in the forecast for this weekend...

    1. Tonia, the flowers grew on the strip between the road and a side walk. There used to be homes in the area, but they were destroyed in the tornado last year. Guess somehow those zinnia seeds wound up in different places...

  6. wow! you guys were busy. Love the table. didn't know storms were in your area but I am happy you had no damage and a safe place to go, would of liked to see you wagging the dogs down..did they go out on their own or did you have to carry them out?

    1. I had to carry them in AND out!! The girls tried to help, but it was still a nightmare. Me thinks Harley needs to go on a diet asap! ;-)
