Yarn along

During my sisters visit, I was able to knit her a second pair of socks. (Completely forgot to take a picture of them, though.) Since she was really happy with them, we went and got yarn for one more pair to keep her feet warm during those cold, long German winters. She picked the yarn and the pattern and I got started on them the other day. I will try and get them done quickly, before it starts getting cold there.
The book I'm reading is one in the little house series. Growing up I loved the TV show, but had never actually read any of the books. So far I was able to find four of them at thrift stores, including the latest one " By the shores of Silver Lake". As a matter of fact, I found the top six books in this stack at the library and the thrift store for 25 cents each! Can't beat that and it'll keep me reading for a while. :-)
Thank you Ginny for hosting this weekly yarn along! I really enjoy participating.
Vielen Dank Ginny, fuer den woechentlichen yarn along! Es macht immer Spass dabei zu sein.

  2. We love Little House too. Need to reread many books. Is that yarn self-striping? What is the pattern? It looks lovely.

  8. Ellen, the yarn is a self striping yarn from JoAnn's Fabric's and is a 'premier yarn'. The color is aquamarine. The pattern is out of a German sock knitting book and couldn't be easier. Cast on 16 stitches per needle = shoe size 7 - 9. First row:
Knit one, knit two together, knit 5, yarn over, knit one, yarn over, knit 5, slip one knit one and pass slipped stitch over.
    Second row: knit all
Repeat row 1 and 2. Easy peasy...

  9. Awesome thrift find on the Little House Books! I hope the socks go well. I have never attempted socks, but am hoping to learn by taking a Christmas stocking class this Fall.

  11. Anke, the Little House books were my favorites when I was a girl!! I have all of them and have re-read them 10-12 times over the years. We visited the site of the Little House on the Prairie here in KS several years ago, and I'm hoping to go visit her house in MO. sometime soon. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.
