Success is not final, failure is not fatal - it is the courage to continue that counts.

Kris Kringle

Friday and Saturday night were the annual "Kris Kringle candlelight Christmas" nights up on Burritt on the mountain. We had gone last year and really enjoyed it, so we decided to go again this year.
Last year both girls still sat on Kris Kringle's lap, this year Nadia was the only one. I bet next year neither one will sit on his lap... :-( Do you see the decorated windows in the background? They hung fabrics in the windows and decorated each one differently - all with recycled items and school projects!
All the paths leading from one cabin to the next were lit up. Here is where the old and the new meet. There were rope lights on the ground and hurricane candles on poles everywhere. Last year it was freezing cold when we went and the place was packed. This year the temps were in the upper 50's and there weren't as many people there.
Lots of music in the different cabins.
Es wurde viel musiziert.
And it wouldn't be a candlelight Christmas if the cabins weren't all lit up with candles. So pretty and magical.
I really want Greg to make me one of these.
Chestnuts roasted on an open fire... Very tasty!
Heisse Maronen, ueber einem offenen Feuer geroested. Lecker!
More music... Again, you see where the old and new meet - see the lights on the mantle?
The shepherd keeping watch over the animals.
Der Schaefer hat auf die Tiere aufgepasst.
It was a fun evening and after we got home, we turned on some Christmas lights, lit some candles and snuggled on the couch to watch a movie together. A great Saturday night spent together!
Samstag abend miteinander, was gibt es besseres...

  2. What a pleasant way to spend an evening together as a family. I love the picture of Nadia on Kris Kringle's lap.

I could see why you would want Greg to make you the candle holder...very pretty.

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful ideas you mentioned about using Carroll's pictures of nature for cards and calendars. Had I actually posted those back in the fall, there would have been some gifts made from those ideas! I did take my very favorites out those I posted and had prints made several weeks ago. I framed them and have some in our living room and some in our mud room.

Just out of curiosity how would you do the cards? Would you have prints made and make the cards with the prints adhered to the card stock, or would you make the card using the scanned picture?

Yes...all of the veggies were from Carroll's garden. He had three small ones here at the house and one BIG one at his dad's. I completely forgot about the pickled beets and also the lima beans that I canned. I really do love to can.

  4. Dianna, if I were to make cards out of those beautiful pictures, I would adhere the print to a card made out of cardstock. A friend of mine would always photograph her house plants (orchids and such) and turn them into beautiful cards. Might work for your beautiful African violets..
Your gardens must be huge and very well taken care off to yield so much food to can.

  6. Thank you, Anke, for answering my question about the nature pics and cards. That's an excellent idea!

Hope you'll enjoy the pie if you decide to make it. I also have a recipe for a sweet potato casserole.

  8. I love the way the candles are too. Hubby made something similar one year for me, but I put tea lights in it. Then I put it in the fireplace, it was a summertime party!
