The fair's in town...

I have a confession to make: The kids and I had never been to a fair! I know, shocking, isn't it? Greg used to go to lots of them when he was growing up and he remembered them as being lots of fun. So, since the NE Alabama State Fair was here, the weather was cooperating (only low to mid 80's) we decided to head on over there and check it out.
This was actually a smaller fair, but we still had a lot of fun.
This being a fair and not a carnival, we expected more animals and livestock. There was only one area set up, which was a little disappointing. Girls still got to pet a few goats and sheep though...
As Greg was in line at the ticket booth (for the rides) Nadia had to try her luck at the ring toss. Right as we were waiting somebody won one of those gigantic stuffed animals, and Nadia was hoping she'd win one, too. I'm kinda glad she didn't - they were HUGE!
The first ride, Nadia is in heaven. She LOVES rides!
Her and Greg are much more into all those rides than Hannah and myself. Guess we're kinda chicken...

We did go on several rides...
Wir sind aber trotzdem einiges gefahren...
This is the ride that even scared Nadia. It was kind of like a ferris wheel, but the little "drums" spun around as well and left her and Greg upside down for a while. Greg said she got very, very quiet during that ride. Guess even she has her limits... Needless to say, Hannah and I sat this one out...

  2. I can't believe you've never been to a fair! I have not been to one in ages, I guess when I got older I started looking at them like you'll never get me on to one of those!!!!! My Opa took us to a fair once, and I will always remember those big luebkuchen (not sure if I spelled that right) hearts. Every time I smell that fragrance it reminds me of that time. Glad you guys had a lot of fun!!

  3. Ulrike, the girls and I have been to fairs (Rummel, Karnival, Kirchweih) in Germany, but never here in the States. Greg remembers the fairs from his childhood having lots of animals and oddities and that was what we were hoping to see. We didn't, but it was a fun day for us nevertheless.

I get dizzy too, but people watching is always a great time there.

  5. I think that the fairs in Germany are so much fun, but that's because it brings back tons of memories!!! Maybe they might have another one with animals that the girls would enjoy. We have a game ranch about 45 minutes from here where you can pet deer, etc..; I've never been but my daughter has quite some time ago.
    Take Care!

  6. I think I'd sit that last ride out too! Fairs are fun, we've found that some have better livestock exhibits than others though.
