Projects

Being home this week has given me the time to work on a few projects and play. Yesterday I decided to try my hand at making a little fabric basket. I still had some fabric left over from the birdcage project and decided to use that. The basket was very easy to make and I'm happy about how it turned out. I will probably use some interfacing on the next one to make it a little stiffer and maybe make it a little bit larger. This basket will be filled with some goodies and given to my secret pal at work. And no, she doesn't read my blog...
Keine Angst, sie liest meinen blog nicht...After seeing this monkey pattern I had to knit some socks for myself. Very easy to knit and I love how it looks.
These are the reindeer I was able to finish last night, they will be used as "place cards" at Christmas. I have made many different things over the years and we still use them in our Christmas decorating. Some wind up on the tree, others are placed here and there.
My friend Susanne came over for coffee yesterday and I baked this chocolate pound cake. It's from the Trisha Yearwood cookbook and it's really good.
Lecker!
Chocolate pound cake
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup (2 sticks) butter at room temp
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 cups sugar
5 large eggs, room temp
1 cup mild (I used whey)
2 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350, grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan. As you can see I used a ring mold and was glad I did it. My tube pan would have been to small.
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa three times
With electric mixer, cream butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add flour mixture and milk alternately, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla.
Here is where I added a jar of cherries to make the cake a little moister.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for one hour. Cool the cake in pan for 30 minutes before turning it our and cooling it completely. Since I added the cherries, I had to adjust the cooking time. It took about 10 minutes longer for my cake to get done.
