Canning and baking

Yesterday my friend Kelly came over bearing gifts, peppers to be more specific. Her pepper plants are still producing a lot and since she planted jalapenos by accident, she gave them all to me.
Gestern kam meine Bekannte Kelly rueber und hat mir zwei Tueten Paprika geschenkt. Sie hatte aus Versehen scharfe Paprika gepflanzt, und da sie sie nicht mag, habe ich sie bekommen.I made a green and red pepper relish out of the bell peppers and some of the jalapenos. It was easy to make, but boy did the house smell like peppers...
Aus den "normalen" Paprika und einem Teil der scharfen Paprika habe ich ein Relish gemacht. War leicht zu machen, aber das ganze Haus hat danach nach Paprika gerochen...

Since we like jalapenos on a lot of different things, I pickled what was left. Of course Kelly got a jar of relish and a jar of pickled jalapenos. She doesn't like spicy food, but her hubby does.
Wir (Greg und ich) essen gerne scharf, deshalb habe ich die uebrigen Jalapenos in Essig eingelegt. Kelly hat selbstverstaendlich von beiden ein Glas bekommen. Sie isst zwar nicht gerne scharf, dafuer aber ihr Maenne.
Today I baked bread, again... this time a tomato-feta loaf. It smells soooo good!
Heute habe ich auch wieder Brot gebacken. Dieses mal ein Tomaten-Feta Brot. Es riecht unglaublich lecker!!!
Here are the recipes:

Green and red pepper relish
4 sweet green peppers, chopped
4 sweet red peppers, chopped
4 medium onions, finely chopped
1 cup vinegar, divided
1 cup sugar
1 tsp pickling salt
Combine peppers, onions and 3/4 cup boiling water in large enamel saucepan, cover and let stand for 5 minutes.
Drain and return to saucepan. Stir in 1/3 cup each vinegar and water. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat, simmer for 5 minutes.
Drain again and return vegetable so saucepan. Heat remaining 2/3 cup vinegar, sugar and salt in microwave until sugar is dissolved. Add to vegetables and return mixture to a boil. Boil gently, uncovered for 25 minutes or until liquid is reduced and vegetables are tender-crisp.
Fill jars, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Process 10 minutes for half-pint and 15 minutes for pint jars.
I varied this recipe a bit, since I didn't have enough of the sweet peppers. The recipe was doubled and I used 6 green bell peppers, 2 green jalapenos and 8 red jalapenos.

Tomato-Feta Loaf
3/4 cup sourdough starter
3/4 cup water (I used whey)
3 cups bread flour
1/2 cup feta, crumbled (didn't have feta, so I used blue cheese)
1/2 cup green onion stems, finely chopped (didn't have that either, so I used basil)
3/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes in oil, drained and finely chopped
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp active dry yeast

    Da läuft Steffi und mir das Wasser im Mund zusammen beim Anblick der Jalapenos Gläser.Mh..
    lecker schmecker.Da wen du uns ein Glas rüberlangen könntest!
    Wir freuen uns schon wenn wir nähstes Jahr selber im Garten welche anbauen.Das Brot sieht auch recht lecker aus.
